Hello!  My name is Cynthia “Cyndi” McNamara and I am a current Southampton Town Councilwoman and a candidate for Southampton Town Supervisor.

I am a life-long resident of the Town of Southampton.  I spent the first 20 years of my life on the east side of the canal.  I grew up swimming in Trout Pond, rolling down Holmes Hill, playing soccer at North Sea Field and I have walked more laps around Southampton Village with friends after school than I can count.  I took the bus from the First Presbyterian Church to swimming lessons at Tiana Beach, bowled at the Polish Hall, bussed tables at Shippy’s and waitressed at the Hansom House.

My husband Dan and I spent the last 20+ years raising our two girls on the west side of the canal.  We bought our first home in Hampton Bays in 1997 and moved to East Quogue in 2007.  Our girls grew up fishing in Shinnecock Bay, camping on the beach, trick-or-treating on the President streets, dancing at Hampton Bays School of Dance and playing PAL lacrosse.  Taylor is a senior at Westhampton Beach High School and Jocelyn is a junior at Cornell University.  I not only want our girls to be able to afford to live here, I also want this to remain a place where they would want to live.

My public advocacy efforts began several years ago when Common Core and high stakes testing programs were introduced into our schools.  I then served on the East Quogue Board of Education where I worked with my fellow Board members to secure Community Preservation Fund Payment in Lieu of Taxes (CPF PILOT) funds to lower our local tax rate.  Aside from being fiscally responsible to our local taxpayers, my biggest goal while serving was to make sure the Board operated in a completely open and transparent manner.

In 2017, I formed the Concerned Citizens of East Quogue to keep residents informed on issues affecting our hamlet.  There are currently over 400 members of this group who either reside or own businesses in East Quogue.  I was appointed to the East Quogue Citizen’s Advisory Committee (EQCAC) in 2018 and was elected Chair of that committee in 2019.  Most recently our EQCAC advocated for and obtained Suffolk County Water Authority hookups for East Quogue residents who had their private wells contaminated with PER and polyfluoroalkyl substances known as PFAS.

I was also a member of the East Quogue Village Exploratory Committee (EQVEC) which investigated the costs and benefits of Village Incorporation.

As a Town Councilwoman I have a proven record of researching the matters before me, and listening to constituents. In instances where I disagree with proposed legislation I have worked to find common ground.

In all of my roles I work hard to understand and represent the needs and concerns of my community.
