It has been an honor to serve as your Councilwoman for the past 4 years. Together, we have accomplished a lot, but there’s so much more to be done.
As your Town Councilwoman, I have a proven record of researching the matters before me, and listening to constituents. I have not shied away from controversial topics or dissenting views. I believe there is a common ground to be found on most issues. Instead of simply saying “no,” I have worked hard to find balanced solutions that benefit all of Southampton.
When community members raised concerns about a proposed Battery Energy Storage facility in their neighborhood, I spearheaded a moratorium and co-chaired the steering committee, to ensure that we had all of the facts and information necessary to keep our community members and first responders safe. From meeting with public safety officials, to touring an active BESS installation on Staten Island, I did everything I could to be as involved and informed in the process as possible, and ultimately sponsored the new BESS code.
Throughout my time in office, I supported environmental initiatives, co-sponsoring legislation requiring groundwater monitoring wells at Town Transfer Stations and the creation of the Riverside Sewer District and the future Hampton Bays Sewer District, to help water quality issues and revitalization efforts in those communities.
My advocacy for our police and code enforcement departments has led to an increase in staffing. I launched the Hometown Heroes Banner Program, which honors our local veterans and active military members by hanging banners in Good Ground Park from Memorial Day to Veterans Day.
I supported programming for our seniors, including sponsoring a Shopping Assistance Program, where we partnered with Heart of the Hamptons to provide assistance to older adults who can’t easily get out to shop for groceries or pick-up medical prescriptions.
To protect and maintain the character of our community, I sponsored a memorializing resolution supporting affordable housing, while maintaining local authority.
For our business community, I streamlined the Contractor Licensing process and created the Trades Advisory Committee to give our local businesses a voice in government, and supported new software for the Building Department to improve processes and efficiencies. I re-established the Shinnecock Dock Management Committee to support our local fisherman.
As your Councilwoman, I work hard to understand and represent the needs and concerns of our community. I have lived here all of my life and raised my two daughters here, with my husband, Dan. I not only want our girls to be able to afford to live here, I also want this to remain a place where they would want to live.
Please be sure to vote for me on November 4 so I can continue to work for you and our common goals.
